I don't remember, what was it for.October 11, 2017. It is not easy to put all addons and downloads. I will keep in my mind, All these problems are learning process. I guess because I put everything back in the end, it won't really matter.ĭoing it this last time, I have fixed a few annoying issues that I suddenly started having and FSX is running really well now. I have been doing this type of fix for problems with FSX/FSXadd-ons this way for a long time, I have never noticed any problems with leftovers in the registry. After I finish doing it all, I will get rid of the F:\FSX Backup and all its contents.

Although removing the add-on from the Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs) without a proper uninstall can leave the product installation info in the registry, I have found that it fixes the registry once I install the product again. I don't clean the registry after renaming the FSX folder.ģ.

I have not redone REX2 yet (being lazy with that one), but I did remove the textures before reinstalling/repairing FSX.Ģ. I have installed many of my add-ons so far. What is your experience with this type of problem?ġ. I have found that using Control Panel\Programs and Features\Uninstall will get rid of the application but leave folders with broken links in the registry.

How far along are you with the reinstall?Ģ.Does this method require any registry clean up in regards to FSX and CS products?ģ.Addons such as airports, scenery, weather textures like REX, ASE, etc - are you cleaning up the registry when those are uninstalled? A lot of addons have uninstallers that will remove the application plus delete registry folders. I have a couple of questions about reinstalling using the method you outlined above.ġ. I'm still in the process of bringing things back to my new FSX installation after I did all the above about a month ago. Any modified aircraft.cfg and panel.cfg and pretty much any other changes you have made to your add-ons can be carried over from the renamed FSX folder into the new FSX folder. It has worked for all I have done so far. I usually say yes, and then reinstall the add-on. Windows might tell you of a missing uninstall log (or something like that) and so can't uninstall it, but it might ask if you want to remove it from Control panel Programs and Features (Add and Remove Programs in WinXP). An uninstall should not touch the aircraft in the original FSX location (which was renamed) so it doesn't know they are there. Others will need to be uninstalled and reinstalled. Reinstalling your FSX add-ons is different and will depend on the add-on itself, some (like Captain Sim) can be "repaired", even though they are not where the installer believes them to be. I have had to repair it quite a few times (I can send you the program if you like), in which I might lose a few logged flights, but it's better than losing ALL of them.

The one I am using now is from 2009 and has been through several clean installations of both Windows XP and Windows 7.

The FSX DVD still thinks that FSX is installed in F:/Flight Simulator X and so it will do a complete reinstall of itself there. Place the FSX DVD int the DVD Drive and select the Repair option when given the choice to Uninstall or Repair.

I strongly recommend that you delete the fsx.cfg file, but you don't have to if you don't want to. For me, I renamed F:\Flight Simulator X to F:\FSX Backup. After the restart, rename you FSX folder. Restart your computer and DO NOT try starting FSX after the restart (it might not allow you to the next step!). If you have enough HDD space to do so, give this a try: I have a suggestion, but it requires quite a lot of HDD space.
